As you can see there was foam… and a decent amount of it.  But decent is as far as I’d say it went.  This was due to the number of people there.  People in contact with the foam breaks it down.  I had no idea we’d have THAT many people there.  Next time around, there will be 2 or 3 foam machines.

The party, aside from being EXTREMELY crowded, went off really well.  There were a couple of last-minute setup issues, but things still went smoothly and we got the musing going at 8:10pm… only 10 minutes behind schedule.  Speaking of schedule, the venue owners told me that we were NOT subject to the same 3am shutdown time as downtown Phoenix.  Turns out that was a fib, so to answer a lot of people THE PARTY WAS NOT SHUT DOWN.  We just had to end it at 3am.  I appologize to Poss and Seraph who missed their sets because of this.  There were other issues with the venue, but if you want to know about them, feel free to contact me privately, it’s not something the general public needs to read about.

We actually had partygoers from all walks which was pretty impressive.  A lot of ravers who are selfish about “their scene” were upset to see club kids, college kids, and just about everybody else there, but I think exposing them to our music was a very good way of letting them know we exist, and acknowledgement is one step closer to acceptance.  We actually had people in from Florida, Georgia, Nevada, California, and New Mexico to experience this party!  Talk about good marketing!

The music at this event was nothing less than top notch.  WidgetPhreak and R3N2 played a DAZZLING 8-bit set that the kids totally jammed out to, and Andy said it was the biggest crowd he’s ever played for.  Mindbender’s bubble bobble remix went off amazingly, and needless to say Venom just destroyed the dance floor. When he played his Crank That remix, the roof was nearly blown off the place.

The only negative thing anybody has had to say about the party was that it was too crowded, and in my opinion, that’s not really a NEGATIVE thing.  Ravers in AZ will never be pleased.  I always read reviews about parties saying “there wasn’t enough people there, so there was no vibe” or “there were too many people, so there was no vibe”  I dont remember ever reading “there was JUST the perfect amount of people there”  I remember early 90s raves where you knew it was a great party because people were packed into a warehouse so tight that their sweat condensed on the overhead plumbing and came back down on you as “raver rain.”  Those were the days.

Just like with most of my parties, I was so busy running things that I didn’t get to experience TOO much of the party, but I’ve hit on the key points.  The one last thing I’d like to say is that it was an HONOR working with Mike Saga as a partner and I can’t wait to do another event with him.  The last thing left to do is link to a few of the other reviews floating around out there .

Tommy Danger wrote a bubble bobble review that quite literally made me tear up.  I felt like a total goober as I got misty eyed reading the experience he had with my party.  It’s hearing people say things like this that makes me keep throwing parties.  Even if I had lost my ass financially on the event, hearing a single review like this would have made the entire thing worthwhile.

Karma posted pictures in her rave gallery at Karmatica.com and got some amazing shots!

Aaron (a long time friend and mentor) wrote a review of his experience with bubble bobble.  He was the guy running my door, and while a few people weren’t happy with his occasionaly brash demeanor, it was that exact attitude that prevented me from losing a cent through the door.  You’d be lucky to have such a guy handling your loot.

As retarded as it is to give your detractors a voice, there were some legitimate reviews posted over at AzEDM.com — but take the rest with a grain of salt.  A once fertile edm community, is now mostly inhabited by jaded ex-ravers turned rave-haters.

Grave: Infekted was not quite as successful as most people assumed it would be.  With a final turnout of about 200 or so, it was a dismal situation.  The sound on the main stage left a little something to be desired, but the acts pulled through.  I felt a lil sorry for Illectrolab playing to a crowd of 12 or so.

I’d be lying if I said I wasnt a little nervous for Industrial Light and Magic iss gonna be like, but you guys know me and I have YET to disappoint… so in short… it’s gonna rock the casbah!!!

Just Keep Raving… of course it looks to be another standard formula rave.  Rent a building, put some local talent on the lineup, print some flyers with some sort of theme your party won’t actually follow, and charge more than you probably should to get in.   $15 before 11 and $20 after with no out of town talent, no lasers, and nothing to really differentiate it from any other party just seems a lil much.  Oh well, most of the kids in Phoenix don’t know the difference anyways so they’ll show up, pay their money, have a place to party, and never realize it should have been better.  That’s why I keep throwing the events I do, because I like a party with substance, and maybe if I make the kids demand more, other parties will have to catch up or lower prices.

On an extra positive note, I did fix up the gallery so all the images fit on the page now, and also the images inserted into posts, and the random images ont he top right get the lightbox treatment.  Just click ‘em and see.  Pretty nifty eh?
